Breakfast picnic on Table Mountain

A beautiful morning arrived with the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean!

Breakfast was delivered to our suite, but we decided what a waste to have breakfast in the hotel suite. So quick phone call to guest relations, and we had containers to pack the breakfast into, so that we could take with us and have a picnic on top of Table Mountain.

SO crutches and all, Charlise, Tarryn and I set off on our journey to Table Mountain. As we were driving to our destination, traffic came to a standstill and being from Joburg we obviously suspected the worst. To our absolute delight and surprice we looked to our right and there were three police officer's on their scooters ushering a mommy, daddy and no little than seven baby Egyptian Geese down to the waterfront... What a pleasant and caring surprise.

After we experienced this caring and rather endearing gesture we proceeded to our destination. On arrival we were ushered to the disabled parking (me being on crutches) and subsequently the Guard/Attendent on duty took Geoff to the ticket office and within minutes we were on our way up to the Cable Cars. The service was outstanding.

As this was Charlise and Tarryn's first visit to Table Mountain the Cable car was a bit dawnting but awe inspiring as we had a 360 degree view of Cape Town. Once we reached our "summit" the weather being perfect, we did the usual tourist thing and went exploring and took a fair amount of photographs as per usual.

Once we had done our sight seeing, the dussie's sunbathing (I thought some of them were dead) only to discover that this is clearly one of their favourite past times we decided to have our picnic breakfast on the look out point looking south over the 12 Apostles towards Cape Point.

What a lekker morning!

Table Mountain - deserves the title and being one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. A definate for your bucket list!

Trip to the penguins - Sept 2012

Whilst in Cape Town, and a rain afternoon, Charlise, Tarryn and myself decided to take a drive to Simon's Town to go to the Toy Museum (which was closed - early) and then to visit the penguins at Boulders Beach.

Well we arrived (Charlise on crutches) and took a walk down the board walk and found the males all together, and then further on a male penguin - stading over his "woman" - guarding any other male from getting near.

The great thing was that it was close to "going home" and the males were all coming back from the sea and on their way to their resting place for the night.

We stood watching these awesome birds - as they climbed on top of a large boulder and then had to slide down the other side to get to their resting places. Took some great pictures and videos on the cell phone.

Afterwards we went to the Boulders Beach Lodge and had a great early dinner - great service, location and tasty food.

Boulders is a great place to go watch the penguins - for young and old!! So great that SANParks protects them!!

Monday 24 September 2012

A recent trip to Cape Town again showed what a 1st class destination this is, clean, safe and geared for easy travel. I was travelling with my daughter from Brisbane and my love of my life, both first time tourists to Cape Town.

So many things to do in Cape Town - can meet any activity a person wants to do, but we did the typical Cape Town scenic highlight "tour" - which allowed us to take a leisurely drive around the Cape Peninsular, for first time visitors and see the best on offer.

As usual one never knows what the weather will be like, so I geared it to meet the weather conditions, undertake activities to suit the weather conditions. After a great exploring weekend, they both said I should become a tour guide for Cape Town.

Day 1 was rainy but not to cold, day 2 started out beautiful but then became so wind with the Cape Doctor blowing for most of the day, and then day 3 was a perfect Cape Town day- 2km winds, crystal clear views, and what an amazing sunset to end off the day!

Our highlights were a visit to Boulders Beach and the penguins, scenic peninsular drive over Chapmans Peak, a picnic breakfast on top of Table Mountain, nearly being blown away at Cape Point, sundowners at the Brass Bell and catching up with my cousin, scenic drive past Grabouw to Gansbaai, lunch at Fabio's in Hermanus, and then an awesome slow drive from Hermanus past betty' Bay to Gordon's Bay (where we saw the only whale around that day :-)).

As typical when on holiday, the Sunday morning we left was again proving to be an awesome day in Cape Town.
